Summary:

The I&E Tech provides overall guidance for area work crews/management and other technical entities for the installation, operation, evaluation, design and repair of natural gas compressor station / pipeline related control systems / equipment. Provides the technical support to field personnel responsible for maintenance of location control systems and related equipment, including qualification training and evaluation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:

  • Install, diagnose, and maintain SCADA systems, plant, pipeline, and compressor instrument and electrical equipment components with all job duties and responsibilities executed in a reliable and efficient manner while in compliance with the Partnership's procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Install, diagnose, and maintain pneumatic and intelligent instruments, electrical distribution systems, motor control gear, and associated equipment software.
  • Install, diagnose, and maintain PLC's or DCS systems & process or safety controls.
  • Read and interpret manuals, policy, engineering standards, regulations, drawings, and schematics, including electrical, pneumatic, and P&ID's
  • Test, calibrate, and document plant and compressor station control and safety devices per DOT 192, DOT 193, DOT 195 or applicable PSM 1910 requirements and ensure frequencies of required preventative maintenance task are kept current.
  • Participate in call out/on call requirements.
  • Actively participate in partnership safety programs and initiatives
  • Perform specialized technical skills (i.e. develops complex design projects, cost estimates, evaluates electrical systems, build and maintain ESD systems, maintain gas turbine or skid unit control systems)
  • Provide work direction, oversight, and inspect other work provided by third party contractors.
  • Provide mentoring and oversight to less qualified employees.
  • Provide accurate written and electronic reporting.
  • Comply with partnership safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout procedures (LOTO)

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license with demonstrated safe driving record.
  • Possess a solid working knowledge of internal combustion engine/compressor units, ancillary station equipment, and pipeline pressure and flow control.
  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of the NEC and electrical safety requirements, and Operations and Maintenance procedures related to plant controls systems including installation, testing, calibration, and maintenance of controls related equipment (such as Siemens PLCs, PID control loops, 120/240 volt single phase, Delta & Y 3-phase systems through 480 volts and 24VDC and 120VAC control circuits); testing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical equipment in a gas compressor station; programming using Siemens 505 Workshop and/or Tisoft, LogoSoft and Lookout operator interface software; maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing motor starters, commercial power and incoming power disconnects, indoor and outdoor switchgear, motors, power transformers, VFDs and UPSs; planning work, preparing budget-related information and maintaining spare parts inventory.
  • Job duties require solid analytical and problem-solving skills to review data from multiple sources, identify trends and root causes.
  • Able to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Candidate must be able to work without direct supervision and have excellent organizational skills.
  • Possess human relations skills to effectively operate in a work crew-oriented environment with a willingness to support work crew objectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to enable incumbent to work closely with field work crews and Area Management, and coordinate work with other appropriate technical resources.
  • Strong computer literacy and proficiency.

Required education:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Minimum of two years of college, completion of an accredited technical trade school, or three to four years' experience in controls, instrumentation, etc., related software and system certifications (i.e. Factory Talk, Delta V, etc.)

Required experience is commensurate with the selected job level:

  • Level C requires a minimum of 0 - 2 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level B requires a minimum of 2 - 4 years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience
  • Level A requires a minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience in a midstream operations role or equivalent work experience

Working Conditions and Requirements:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  1. Frequent exposure to heat, cold, and other adverse weather conditions
  2. Repetitively standing, walking, bending, stretching, reaching over shoulder height, and climbing ladders up to 25 feet. Occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs with or without assistance
  3. Working conditions may include confined spaces.
  4. Subject to call-outs to respond to operational issues and emergencies after working hours, at night, and on weekends and holidays
  5. Work in and around industrial and construction settings, which may include hazardous products, processes, materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and may require appropriate personal protective equipment.
  6. Reliable attendance at work
  7. Occasional overnight travel may be required.
  8. Must live within 50 miles of the work location.
